The brief and objectives:

The school surrounding is a major part of the lives of children. The high objectives of the Ruukki School were to find the best solutions in terms of technical, functional and space design in order to give a positive push for a life-long learning. School has to be a place where each and every one can feel accepted and comfortable.

Safety and functionality from many angles:

When doing the most critical architectural choices, there were three main points. First: The energy consumption had to stay low and the building technology had to allow the flexibility through the whole life-span of the building. Secondly: the functionality had to offer teachers the possibilities to use modern and developing teaching methods and equipment. Third: The chosen materials had to be safe, durable and easy to clean.

Through the eyes of the designer:

"The building has been designed to be approachable. It matches the environment and the design is modern and timeless. The interior of the building is functionally cozy: The distances are short and the space is easily supervised. The presence of the staff creates safety in this compact school. In addition the well-conducted acoustics guarantee stress-free spaces." - Johan Lindfors
